Who Is It For?

The programme is designed for individuals whose educational performance is adversely affected by loss of visual acuity or visual field, and who therefore need special education and support education services. It covers both blind and low-vision individuals.

Programme Modules

  • Braille: Teaching the Braille alphabet and developing reading and writing skills in embossed script.
  • Orientation and mobility: Spatial awareness, wayfinding, cane use and safe independent movement.
  • Daily living skills: Supporting independence in self-care, eating, dressing and household tasks.
  • Effective use of residual vision: Making the most of existing visual capacity in low-vision individuals through magnifiers, high contrast and appropriate lighting.
  • Tactile and auditory perception: Building skills so that senses other than vision can be used effectively in learning.

Teaching and Learning Process

Instruction is individualised according to the person's level of vision and learning priorities. The approach moves from concrete to abstract, makes intensive use of tactile and auditory input, and offers practice in real-life settings. Cooperation with the family ensures that gains transfer to home and school.
